almost missed it…. volume 8

i did. i almost missed her 8-month birthday. it was a week ago sunday (the 13th). she had an awful head cold. her brother was about to be diagnosed with strep throat. her sister had a significant runny nose. thankfully we’re all FINALLY on the mend. good thing, too, since nana is here!

at 8 months, my dark-haired beauty is….

- still toothless

- still a peanut (weighs in at 13 pounds, 14 ounces WITH her clothing, bib, binky strap, binky AND shoes)

- LOVES to jump and bounce (she can’t get enough time in the doorway jumper)

- really likes her baby veggies. she does NOT like rice cereal or oatmeal

- still nurses almost exclusively…. she’s my longest nurser… think i’ll make it until she can go on whole milk?

- still likes to be wrapped in a blanket for naptime and bedtime

- is FINALLY beginning to sleep (almost) through the night (the “almost” means she wakes up and needs her binky but doesn’t need to eat)

- still sleeps with a binky

- is still ENAMORED with her big brother and sister

- has ZERO teeth

- is as sweet and laid-back as can be

- is STILL our easiest baby

Thursday Thoughts

-Nana has come and gone (and her visit was a good one which deserves a whole post itself).

-My weekend (ish) in Seattle has come and gone.

-I’ve learned lots about photography but need to start practicing it.

-I bought some new clothes (hooray!).

-Alex is well over 8 months old and I haven’t done her 8-month update yet (b/c I haven’t taken her photos).

-There are new medical issues with Alex (that’s a whole post in itself) and she has an evaluation scheduled at Children’s Hospital in Seattle for April 11th (just a week and a half away).

-I am (ever-so-slowly) making progress on putting TWO images onto a 4×6 print so i can do my first major photo order since August 1st (right now I have over 60 photos ready to print which means 120 images…. so i guess i’m about 1/3 of the way there).

-Nana started potty training Samantha (gasp!).

-Davey STILL likes to poo in his pull up and/or underwear instead of in the potty. This is getting a little bit ridiculous.

-The week before Nana came to visit, at least two people were praying for me. I don’t want to know what my week would’ve been like WITHOUT their prayers! Davey had strep throat. Things kept going wrong. Alex had ANOTHER head cold (poor girl doesn’t even get over one before the next one starts).

-I have found a (new construction) house that I want Dave to look at this weekend. I keep reminding myself of this, “I am content where I am. I am content where I am.”

-There’s so much more, but it will have to wait until later. I’m sorry.

10 days

slacker! i am. i know. i apologize. but i will not make empty promises.

yesterday (saturday) was a crazy day, but i need to access the photos on my MIL’s camera before i post about the first half of the day. at the end of the day, however, samantha, alexandra and i picked up a special guest at the bellingham airport:

for the next 10 days (well, 9, ‘cuz today was day 1), nana will be here to LOVE LOVE LOVE on her sweet grandchildren. which means i will get some much-needed breaks (including SLEEPING IN A LITTLE!). i will also accomplish two major goals: order photos from 8/2 through the present AND clean the office. trust me, these are BIG undertakings! ¬†:)

nana always brings presents for the kiddos. and she finds some of the most amazing and PERFECT things for the kids. this trip? for my BOLT (movie) loving samantha, she found this:

it’s a little hamster that runs around in a ball…. JUST like Rhino the Hamster in the movie.

i’m looking forward to the next 10 (okay, 9 more) days.

snow day!

we’ve been waiting all season for a REALLY GOOD snow. just one. but we haven’t received any. so instead of waiting for the snow to come to us, we went to it!¬†many, MANY thanks to grandma & grandpa for watching alex today so dave and i could take The Twins up to Mount Baker for a day (or a few hours!) of sledding and playing in the snow. we forgot dave’s camera and my camera spent the majority of our time in dave’s jacket pocket, we have very few photos.

[many thanks to strangers Betty (i think that was her name) and John (or Sean?) for snapping a few family photos for us!]

there was a LOT of new snow (aka: fresh powder) up there today. it was beautiful.

daddy & samantha on their way down the hill:

sam LOVED sledding…. as long as she didn’t get “all messy” with snow all over her… especially on her face:

… so she wasn’t too happy after this run! she was very selective of WHICH sled she rode down on after this!

davey was scared to go sledding. without too much coaxing, i was able to get him to ride down with me. he LOVED it. we probably spent about 2 1/2 hours sledding and playing in the snow (davey had to go “water the snow” twice). it was fun to do something special for The Twins. hopefully we can have some more fun adventures… i’m a little eager to see what kind of sledding and snowy fun we have a few years from now with all three kids….

even when she’s tired (late naptime) and whiney, who can resist those beautiful blue eyes?

samantha (eventually) fell asleep on the drive home. davey, however, was fully engrossed in his movie (A Bug’s Life) and in the bag of nuts he inhaled:

after months (years, perhaps?!) of talking about it, i’ve finally gone and done it…

i’ve opened my ETSY shop!

it opened just MOMENTS ago and i’ll add more rings as this day progresses. additionally, i’ll add more items during the weeks and months of March. watch for fun things like:

- altered book journals

- pacifier clip straps

- scrabble tile decor

- scrabble tile PHOTO decor

- headbands

- coffee bean art

i’m getting more and more excited about it now that it’s REALLY HAPPENING!!!!

manic monday

our monday was pretty crazy. GOOD crazy, but crazy none-the-less.

as usual, we attended play group from 9-11 (ish). i can’t say it enough: i love those women. they are Godly. they are encouraging. they are REAL. we share advice, recipes, babysitting, coupons, feelings, tears, frustrations, life… i honestly would not be the mom i am without these women. i love them.

then we headed home (in the hail!) to do a final “tidying” of the house before my friend julie and her youngest daughter, Elise, came over to play and have fun. julie and i worked on our printer’s drawers (or whatever they once were). i’m the one who convinced julie to buy the one she did…. i told her, “sure, we can just pop out some of those little spaces to make larger cubbies….”

turns out it’s a little harder than that…. we pulled out the pliers:

and the exacto knife:

a hammer & screwdriver (not pictured) along with an arsenal of other useless tools. julie’s dad, however, has a well stocked shop and she’s hoping to take her tray there to have him remove a few sections of wood. it’s gonna look GOOD when it’s all finished, though. we played around with our collection of letters and numbers (Bs and 6s for her…. Ds and 5s for me):

doesn’t that look AMAZING? imagine it with some family photos…. SO FUN!

wanna peek at mine?

completely different, i know. the wood “slats” are WAY fatter/heavier in my drawer, so i’m not sure how i’ll remove any of them (if at all) so i might just work with what i have. i have to print some photos smaller so i can crop them into the square spaces…. and i want to leave room for growth. but despite that…. pretty cool, eh?

these were our bargain finds in snohomish back in january. we each wanted one… and we ended up with quite a few to choose from. i’m actually wishing i’d purchased TWO (one more like julie’s and the one i purchased).

here’s a peek at the BACK of mine:

my heart beats just a little bit faster each time i see it!

after Julie & Elise headed home, i stalked the mail carrier for my order of resin flowers so i could make some more rings…. and on that note, these beauties:

will be in my etsy shop by the end of the week. and if i get enough orders, i’ll be able to order some more supplies to make more!

and after dinner, i made two batches of cookies (snickerdoodles and chocolate chip) and tomorrow i will mail & deliver 75% of the cookies to family and friends!
