home again

ahhh…. so good to be home. we had a good time relaxing in the sun by the pool. neither of us got badly burnt, for which we are VERY thankful. we finished off some bottles of sunscreen, got tan and enjoyed ourselves. it was a very different vacation for us, esp. compared to our last two big ones (kenya and italy). there’s not really anything to do in cabo unless you’re into ocean fishing (which we are not) or into drinking alcohol like a fish (which we are not). there are momentary activities like para sailing and horseback riding and different (expensive) adventures like that but we just weren’t into most of it (and being 6 months pregnant really limited my activities, too). we were hoping for some day trip adventures, but alas…. there’s nothing to see!

i would love to share some photos with you, but i inadvertently left my camera in a taxi in cabo so some mexican family (likely without electricity) now owns my new camera. i spent a few days crying over it. we tried our best to get it back (worked with our hotel and the taxi company every day – several times a day, in fact – but without any success). so all the photos i took are missing in action. thankfully we DID have dave’s camera still so we do have photos of our adventures/trip but for those of you who know dave and i pretty well, we tend to take very different photos. his are mostly scenery and things like that. i’m about capturing people. and b/c my camera is smaller and easier to pull out, it was easier to take to our dinners and the pool and stuff. so dave did an AWESOME job our last few days (i lost the camera on saturday) to take photos of us and shots that i would like. he also let me use his camera (which is hard for me b/c i just don’t understand all that it does). and he did NOT give me a hard time about losing the camera which was my special christmas present from him.

the killer is i realized it was gone about 2 minutes after we got out of the taxi. but the driver was already long gone.

cabo is a barren, desert wasteland. with little to do. we relaxed a LOT but we did not REST. we were kept up late or awakened in the middle of the night by DRUNK people at the resort. and then we were awakened EARLY every morning as the workers got the restaurant ready for breakfast (our room was closest to the breakfast restaurant so we could hear heavy metal chairs scraping on the tiled floors and we could hear all the workers communicating with each other – b/c we were also right next to the hotel maids’ closet and very close to the door leading to the kitchen for the restaurant. ugh. so we didn’t sleep much which is what you really want to do on vacation, ya know? so it’s good *REALLY GOOD* to be home.

while we’re glad we went to cabo, at least now we know that we have no desire to return there. we’ve already talked about where we might like to go next year. we’re still REALLY INTO those ALL-INCLUSIVE resorts. they’re an awesome deal and it makes everything SO MUCH EASIER. yes you have to wear one of those wrist bands all week, but to not have to carry a wallet (leave it locked in the room safe) when you leave the room – even for dinner – it’s so worth it.

dave has to empty his camera still of photos (i’ll try to convince him to do that tonight) and then i have to actually sift through them all so i can post a few. i’ll try to do that in the next few days… I PROMISE. for now, however, it’s back to the LAUNDRY and other fun welcome-home chores like that!

  1. Welcome home! I’m SO SORRY you lost your camera!! I lost my parents’ camera when I was in Venezuela once. It’s a horrible feeling. But I can’t wait to see a few pics and now I know not to go to Cabo!

  2. Welcome home! So sorry to hear about the lost camera. How awesome that Dave showed such amazing grace. Mike lost my camera once and I did not demonstrate the same level of grace (not even close). Kudos to Dave! Can’t wait to see some of the pics you were able to get!

  3. Thanks for the congratulations Tam!!! It will be fun to be pregnant with you for a little while, even though we’re many miles apart :)
I’m so sorry you lost your camera – that’s awful…. can’t wait to see the pics you do have though (i’ll be putting mine on my blog soon too) and i hope you enjoyed the majority of your trip, despite the not being able to sleep too much and the camera loss. welcome home!

  4. oh, and yes, i did read your story about getting pregnant with baby seven! mine was so similar…. basically it just took a while, and i wasn’t getting my period for 60+ days and the dr. gave me progesterone pills to just GET my period, and it turned out that it was that month that i got pregnant. so, i’m guessing (not positive though) that the pills helped. Thank God i didn’t need them this time though, and we’re so very grateful…. xoxo

  6. Glad you’re home safe & sound. Too bad about the camera. It’s good Dave wasn’t too hard on you for losing it…hmm…seems like he lost something on vacation once :) Any time you are ready to use the pregnancy trump card and would like a little help with the house work, give me a call. I’m ready to go!!! Love you guys!
