MMMMMMMMM…………. my house smells SOOOOOO GOOOOOOD right now. I’ve got some snickerdoodles in the oven. i LOVE the smell of cinnamon. I’m not much of a fan of the TASTE of cinnamon (with a few exceptions – like hot cinnamon candy… yum!) but i LOVE the smell. and I do love snickerdoodles.

tomorrow night i hope to START making some monster cookies. I say START b/c the recipe I have makes an awful LOT of cookies…. i’ll for sure be giving some away to friends and/or family b/c there’s no way we can even eat HALF of a batch of monster cookies. my recipe calls for 9 cups of fast-cooking oatmeal and 6 eggs. does that give you an idea of how large of a batch of cookies one can make?!  :)

what yummy holiday treats are your favorites? this year dave and i plan to learn how to ROAST some almonds and walnuts (or pecans?) in butter and sugar…. we ate some fresh from a vendor in NYC’s Central Park just a month ago and they were SOOOOOOOO GOOOOOOOOD so we wanna try to make our own. i can’t wait… i just hope they turn out well!

  1. I am so jealous! I was supposed to do my holiday baking this week, but I am having a hard time justifying the cost of all those homemade goodies when we have to replenish everything that was in our fridge and freezer during the power outage! Wish I was there to have a cookie or two with you :) . XOXO

  2. Ahh, Monster cookies. Back in the day when I was coaching track (B.K. – before kids – of course), I used to make monster cookies for the whole Jr. High team. All 72 or so of them. Yeah…obviously before kids. I haven’t made monster cookies in YEARS. Send one my way if you get a chance. Our favorite holiday treats: cranberry Christmas punch, decorated ginger cookies, caramel corn made in the oven (no microwave stuff for us!), Triscuits with little smokies and melted cheddar. Oooh la la! And our Christmas lunch is always “Make your own mini pizzas”. Not real Christmasy, but it’s easy and we love it! Enjoy your goodies!

  3. Every year…. Frosted sugar cookies, Almond Roca cookies, Hello Dollies, and a couple new this year, Layered Mint Fudge (so good and Easy!), and Cream Wafers, from my childhood and finally got the recipe from my Auntie’s recipe box, and Pretzel Turtles! Lots of Christmas appetizers – stuffed mushrooms, bacon-wrapped water chestnuts, cheese plates and summer sausage with honey-mustard, various dips, cheese ball – of course, sometimes an antipasto platter. Mmm…
